Genre - Tragedy

Death is a process that can sometimes take longer than life. It could take millennia, or even

centuries. What happens when the entire nation is in actual risk of dying, rather than just one

or two individuals? What may bring to a country's complete mental and physical collapse?

The well-known Greek author Dimitris Dimitriadis' 1978 short novel "Dying as a Country"

chronicles the tale of a country nearing a protracted demise.

The text is especially fascinating when considered in light of Georgia's current political

predicament. The creative team attempts to start a new conversation with the audience while

observing the fate of the nation that has reached a standstill in the process of their work.

Review

The play is an excellent example of modern Georgian direction, best acting skills, socially and politically active

theater. Mikheil Charkviani's production will convince you with what directness, sincerity, aestheticism and at

the same time brutality modern Georgian theater can speak with audience.

A continuous flow of tragic emotion, flexed in intense tension, seems to emanate from the heart of our entire

country and is a collective cry of existential pain.

The text of Dimitri Dimitriadis came to life in Georgia with a depressing relevance and became one of the best

theater works of the season.

Tbilisi's Vaso Abashidze was established in 1926 and was given the name State Theater among many other titles. His repertoire for ten years consisted only of musical comedies. Director, actor, composer, playwright, artist, and choreographer—many well-known Georgians—worked there.

Doiashvili took over as artistic director of the Tbilisi Music and Drama State Theater in 2004. He elevated Georgian theater to a new level through encouraging the theater to try new things and providing new possibilities for the expression of progressive ideas. the most recognized performances are "Macbeth," "(Mid)summer night Dream" by Shakespeare, "the lower debth M. Gorky," "Cyrano de Bergerac" by Edmon Rostan, "Pillowman" by McDonagh, "Tartufe" by Moliere, and many more. Being one of Georgia's most inventive and prosperous theaters, we have won numerous awards and honors and are continuing to gain not just national but also international recognition and reputation. Our theater opened a brand-new, highly-acclaimed stage in 2021.

The State Theater of Music and Drama relocated to a new location in 2021 and reopened with the new name "NEW THEATER".
