Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre
September 16 – October 5, 2025
The Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre is one of the most important cultural events of the autumn season in Tbilisi. Now in its 17th year, the festival presents two main programs: an international showcase and a program of Georgian performances.
This year, the festival will open on September 16 with the Georgian performances program.
The international program will begin on September 21 and features some of the most acclaimed names in contemporary theatre and dance from Israel, the United Kingdom, Greece, Latvia, and the United States. The lineup includes Richard III directed by Itay Tiran (Gesher Theatre, Israel), Traplord by Ivan Blackstock (UK), The House by Dimitris Karantzas (Onassis Stegi, Greece), and The White Helicopter by Alvis Hermanis (New Riga Theatre, Latvia).

Performances will take place at Theatre 42, Griboedov Theatre, and Marjanishvili Theatre. Alongside the performances, the festival will also offer masterclasses and workshops, continuing through December.
Audiences will be able to purchase both individual tickets and subscription passes.
Today’s world feels increasingly fragile, complex, and full of contradiction — yet humanity continues to seek a way forward.
“I represent the old world, which no longer exists, but the new has not yet been born” — these final words of Pope Benedict XVI, as quoted in The White Helicopter by Alvis Hermanis, capture the spirit of this year’s international program perfectly.
The festival is founded and supported by Tbilisi City Hall.
This year’s general sponsor is Visa / TBC Concept.
